Formulation of Code of Conduct for EBCTT

18th July 2011

The Elections and Boundaries Commission of Trinidad and Tobago has formulated a Code of Conduct comprising a number of ethical principles to guide individuals responsible for the governance, management and conduct of electoral procedures.

Under the heading - Service to Electors - the Commission and all others responsible for the organization and implementation of the electoral process should work to provide to voters the highest quality service required to enable them to exercise their rights with the least possible inconvenience.  In particular, the Commission should:

(i) Make it as convenient as possible for voters to participate in the election process.

(II) Ensure that voters adequately understand the election process.

(iii) Do everything possible to provide a way to vote for people with special needs such as blind, differently-abled or illiterate voters, or voters in remote areas.

The Code was reproduced in part from (Code of Conduct for the Ethical and Professional Administration of Elections, International IDEA, Stockholm, 1997) and the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance 1997.
